TKD Impact Junior Competition March 19th 2011

I was so pleased with the competitive spirit in all the Banstead TaeKwon-Do Junior Students who took part in the TKD Impact Junior Competition on March 19th, 2011 – every one of you did amazingly well and you should all be super proud.

Haywards Heath was the venue again, which has great facilities and allowed for 3 rings and a special technique area and plenty of spectator seating. Myself and Master Dennis (a 6th Degree at the time) were there in official capacity to help run a well organised day by Master Nardizzi (8th Degree). I ran the special technique side of the tournament until early afternoon and the standard of athleticism by the youngest was excellent, well done to everybody and through gradually increasing difficulty we saw some superb feats worthy of medals.

This tournament allows children to compete from ages from 6 – 17 and 9th Kup (yellow tags) and above. The children are separated in to grade / height / age groups to allow sensible competition between athletes. Apart from the competition side of things competitions like these are a great way to make friends from other TKD schools, friends that you’ll see at each tournament. go up the grading system together, see on seminars and perhaps even grade to Blackbelt together. I fully encourage competition with the right mindset of doing the best you can do, it’s about learning to be better at TaeKwon-Do.

The juniors who entered, and therefore the Banstead TaeKwon-Do team were:

  • Aaron Duvingneau
  • Anais David
  • Lukas Saridis
  • Katie Light
  • James Duff
  • Conor Graham

The fact that they entered is amazing, well done to them all.

While there were nerves the Banstead Team held it together very well and performed highly and represented Banstead TaeKwon-Do extremely well. At this point I will pass on a comment from Master Russell Dennis: James Duff and Conor Graham were yellow tags at the time of the competition and Master Dennis spoke to me afterwards about their performance and complemented both boys on how well they coped with the day, how deep they had to dig in competition, how well they performed against stiff competition. Well done guys.

Results from Banstead

We took home 7 medals from 6 competitors, excellent work.

  • Katie:  Gold in Patterns, Bronze in Special Technique
  • Lukas: Bronze in Special Technique
  • Conor: Silver in Patterns
  • James: one four sparring bouts, the most of our competitors

(if I have made any errors above please let me know)

I want to say a proper WELL DONE TO YOU ALL!
