Croydon "Second Chance" Competition

Some medal winners from the Teens and Adults class

November 23rd 2024 - my 51st Birthday, and also the day of the Croydon TaeKwon-Do Second Chance Competition.

This competition was hosted by Croydon TaeKwon-Do and organised by Grand Master Nardizzi with the thoughtful addition of giving competitors a guaranteed chance to have Two Bouts per event. If a competitor loses in the first round they get put through into a Bronze Medal draw and have at least one other round. This gives everyone more experience on the mats.

These mini competitions are a great way for first timers and young people to gain valuable competition experience in an environment intended to be helpful.

I am happy to say that 12 students from Banstead TaeKwon-Do took part in this event, you guys are brave and improving faster as a result.

Banstead Competitors were:

  • Alan - Juniors

  • Oscar B - Juniors

  • Oliver B - Teens

  • Hollie - Teens

  • Anna - Teens

  • Hadeel - Teens

  • George T  - Juniors

  • Theo J - Teens

  • Jake J - Teens

  • Billy - Teens

  • Josh  - Teens

  • Nate - Teens

Congratulations to every competitor, you already beat everyone that didn't enter and you gave yourself the chance to improve. Well done to you.

Two TaeKwon-Do Events

Giving everyone a "Second Chance" increases the duration of each event so we only ran Patterns and Sparring, we omitted Power Test and Special Technique.

The competition had some memorable moments and a real worthy mention to Oliver B who recently moved up to Teens and Seniors. Oliver has been with the club for years, all through Junior TKD and some time in Tinies too, he has entered several competitions and one can see real improvement because of this. Oliver demonstrated his newly found focus and determination with a SILVER MEDAL in Patterns and a BRONZE MEDAL in sparring - Well Done Oliver.

Special mention to Theo as well, he had a tough sparring experience with the opponents in his division being taller and heavier. Theo fought well and performed TaeKwon-Do with the right amount of observation of the TENETS.

Banstead Results

You can see from the results table Banstead did pretty well again with 7 Gold medals in total and surprisingly most of those in Sparring. We have done quite a bit of sparring practice over the last three months, good to see some results from it.

Thank you & Congratulations

Thank you to the organisers Croydon TaeKwon-Do and Grand Master Nardizzi.

Thank you to all the parents taking their time to drive their competitor to the event, sit there and support the team.

Well done and congratulations to everyone, and in terms of results Anna and Hadeel got maximum points with Double Gold medals each. However, still lots to learn and improve upon for upcoming larger competitions.

Well done all - On To The Next
