We run Easter, Summer and sometimes October half term, holiday camps for the students of Banstead TaeKwon-Do and anyone else interested in giving martial arts training a go. These camps are aimed at school age children, maybe soon I can run a week long skills camp for adults - that would be a cool thing.
6 Hours a day, 5 days long - HOW?
Parents need a break during the long summers, and children need a break too whether that is from the screens or family members. Really, there is nothing better than a martial arts skills camp in Summer or Easter, it breaks up the long holidays but also the children really learn some useful things and get much better at TaeKwon-Do.
Parents have asked me how we cope for 6 hours a day. Really, it's my job to engage people and give them goals to achieve and help them take steps towards those goals. And I have some help, And I break it down into achievable chunks each day.
A normal day would look something like this:
09:30 - 10:15 - Coordination Drills and kicking warm up
Then a 15 minute break
10:30 - 11:15 - martial arts activity
break
11:30 - 12:15 - martial arts activity
lunch break
12:45 - 1:30 - team games and martial arts activity
break
1:45 - 2:30 - martial arts activity
break
2:45 - 3:30 - martial arts activity and a good stretch
So we have 6 activity sessions and plenty of time for students to consolidate information, rest, have snacks, be social, play games and improve friendships.
This year the students had a great deal of benefit with both Edie Davis and Ethan Davis (my daughter and son) helping all week as well. Edie is excellent with taking large groups and working on technical TKD, and Ethan is excellent at passing on sparring tips and pad work drills.
Mini Competitions
We have a competitive element on these holiday camps too covering 3 TaeKwon-Do events, Sparring, Patterns and Flying Kicks and some fun non TKD things. This year we also ran Team Patterns, which is really a great way for people to learn to work with others and find ways to get their ideas heard.

OVERALL MOST IMPROVE TKD STUDENT OF THE WEEK:
NAOMHAN
Medals and Trophies aside I am certain that all students had a rewarding week spending time doing worthwhile activities taking steps to aid enjoyment, help with goal achievements and learn important skills.
Here's to the next one? October half term maybe?
